Tanzania Media Foundation is pleased to announce that it will now be receiving applications for the Rural Dispatch and Content grant.

The Rural Dispatch grant, whose recipients may come from rural or urban areas, aims to increase to increase quality, quantity and diversity of rural voices and issues of ordinary people in the media. It was successfully offered to more than 500 journalists under the Tanzania Media Fund project, whose work is now being conducted by the new TMF.

This year, TMF will issue 60 of the total 150 grants it expects to issue to journalists during the implementation of its 2015 – 2018 strategic plan. This call is specifically directed at journalists who opt not to go through the ideation process which TMF will conduct with journalists later in April. Ideation is a process through which journalists pitch their story idea to a mentor who then helps them to strengthen and improve it. Thereafter, the mentor makes a recommendation to TMF on the quality of the story idea.

Following TMF’s February and March outreach to journalists in 19 regions across Tanzania, the organisation expects from April 18, 2016 to provide ideation to over 500 journalists, based on registration.

The Content Grant is also a continuation of the institutional grants issued under the Tanzania Media Fund project. The objective of this grant is to enable both non-media outlets – such as independent producers, media associations/organizations and training institutes – and media outlets to produce specialised, well-researched quality content. TMF aims to 30 content grants, each valued at USD100,000, during the current strategic period (2015-2018). This year, the organisation will issue nine grants of this kind.

Deadline for applications is 5th May, 2016. All applications for these grant categories must be made online, through TMF’s Flexi-grant system, available on https://tmf.flexigrant.com.
